West Texas Way Chili Cook Off - competition where anything goes. This is where you strut your stuff with your favorite chili. Use a variety of meats, beans, veggies, whole tomatoes or whatever you wish. This chili must be prepared at home and brought up to the park at 10am Ready to serve, making sure to observe the 40 -140 degree temperature rules. Remember you WILL BE required to taste your own chili at turn in.


    Open West Texas Way Chili will blind judged on:
  • AROMA- Chili should smell appetizing.
  • CONSISTENCY - Chili should be a smooth combination of meat and gravy.
  • RED COLOR - Chili should look appetizing.
  • TASTE - Chili should taste good.
  • AFTERTASTE - Chili should leave a pleasant taste after swallowing.

    West Texas Way Chili Rules
  • 2 quarts of chili total
  • 1 pint of chili must be turned in at 10am (Chili Committee will provide the 1 pint judging container)
  • 1 ½ quarts to be sold in 3oz tasting cups at $3 each to general public all proceeds benefit 4H (Chili Committee will provide the spoons and tasking cups)
  • All chili must be cooked from scratch and brought to the park at 10am ready to serve.
  • Electic will be provided to plug your warming device.
  • "Scratch" is defined as starting with raw meat. Commercial chili powder is permissible, but complete commercial chili mixes ("just add meat" mixes that contain premeasured spices) are NOT permitted.
  • Cooks are to prepare and cook chili in as sanitary a manner as possible.
  • COOKS MUST TASTE THEIR CHILI - At the discretion of the head judge chili cooks may be required to remove the lids from their chili cups and taste their chili before turning in for judging. (If a contestant refuses, his or her chili will be disqualified.)
